| | How long have you been a member of Holistic Moms Network? Since November 2013
I am a holistic mom because: I care about naturally healing the mind, body and spirit. I cherish and respect this planet of ours and want to leave the earth a better place for my son. I want to teach him how to be connected to nature so he can do the same for his children.
My holistic passions are: Nutrition, the state of our damaged food system and planet. Sometimes I feel like a broken record talking about GMOs, pesticides, the decline of the bees, fracking, climate change, etc.. but it's amazing how many people just don't know about these topics. Enlightening others or simply raising awareness inspires me to keep that broken record spinning. What inspires you about HMN or holistic living? At my first HMN event, I felt like a kid in a (dye-free, organically sweetened, fair-trade) candy shop! I could freely share my thoughts without being judged or having exhausting debates. Everyone shared many of my values, passions and even fears. It is an incredible breath of fresh air to be among caring, like-minded and open-minded people. There were many nights when I would get lost on the internet researching different topics. Switching to natural cleaners, learning how to use essential oils, homeopathic healing, natural remedies, maintaining wellness, parenting - just to name a few. It was so overwhelming. It's a relief to be in a group where you can benefit from other moms who have mastered those specific subjects instead of having to pursue them all on my own. And the love and support on the message boards is invaluable. I love learning from my fellow holistic mamas!
One of my favorite healthy recipes: LENTIL SLOPPY JOES A fan favorite, even among carnivores.
1 cup uncooked green lentils
4 cups water
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, diced small
1 green pepper, diced small
2 cloves garlic, minced
1.5 (or) 2 Tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon salt
8 oz can tomato sauce
1/4 cup tomato paste
3 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon yellow mustard 4 to 6 bread rolls or a package of slider buns (optional - for serving) 1. Put the lentils in a small sauce pot and pour in 4 cups water. Cover and bring to a boil. Once boiling, lower heat and simmer for about 20 minutes, until lentils are soft. Drain and set aside. 2. Preheat a medium soup pot over medium heat. Sauté the onion and pepper in the oil for about 7 minutes, until softened. Add the garlic and sauté a minute more. Add the cooked lentils, the chili powder, oregano and salt and mix. Add the tomato sauce and tomato paste. Cook for about 10 minutes. 3. Add the maple syrup and mustard and heat through. Turn the heat off and let sit for about 10 minutes, so that the flavors can meld.

Morning Meetup & Open Discussion: Join us at Whole Foods Naperville for a morning open discussion meeting the 2nd WEDNESDAY of each month from 9:30-10:30 am. (Will only be an hour in the summer due to Kids Event at Whole Foods.) http://wholefoodsmarket.com/storesbeta/naperville/ Open to the public. Playgroups: All ages --4th Wednesday of the month @ 9:30 am. Locations will vary. Membership is required to attend playgroups.
Moms Night Out: A moms only "playdate". Babies in arms are welcome. Dates, activities and locations vary. Watch for postings. Membership is required to attend mom's night out.
Book Club:We meet several times a year to discuss the chosen book. Dates and location will vary. Watch for postings. Membership is required to participate in book club.
Mom & Tot Outings: Special outings planned several times a year specifically with our young ones in mind. Dates and locations vary. Watch for postings. Membership is required to participate in Mom/Tot outings.
Family Gatherings, Movie Nights, and additional member events will continue to be scheduled

Children choose interesting work & are guided to work with numbers, the decimal system, & pre-reading activities. Lower Elementary (1st through 3rd Grade) Students use more advanced materials to master reading, grammar, complex math equations, & geography. As they master concrete concepts, students progress to more abstract works. Students work together on research projects to develop their social skills. Upper Elementary (4th through 6th Grade) Students continue to work with more abstract concepts like diagramming sentences, creative writing, algebra, botany, zoology, & world history. Group work is emphasized as is individual research on topics of interest to each student.
