Monthly Chapter Meeting
Pelvic Floor Health and Sexual Function
Tuesday, September 1st, 2015

How well-acquainted with your pelvic floor are you really? Did you know that leaking urine while you laugh or cough or run is common but it is NOT normal? We've all heard of proper work station ergonomics but did you know there are also proper ergonomics for having a bowel movement? In addition to helping control your sphincters, your pelvic floor also plays an important sexual function---learn the physical (and emotional) reasons you may not be enjoying intercourse to its fullest potential. This is one topic you won't want to miss!

Our speaker is Carrie Koziol.  Carrie is a Licensed Physical Therapist specializing in Women's Health including pregnancy and postpartum issues. She is a Pilates instructor certified through Power Pilates and is also certified as a Prenatal Pilates and Postnatal Pilates Specialist by the Center for Women's Fitness. In the spring of 2014, she traveled to Canada to take a class from Bellies, Inc to specialize in treating a common postpartum condition called Diastasis Rectus Abdominus (separation of the abdominal muscles). Carrie is a mother of three whose passion is educating women and inspiring them to make healthy exercise choices, especially when it comes to their pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles.

Wildest thing I did to promote holistic health: Went into Congress )pre-9/11 where I found a room with all the bills. I reached out and the first one I grabbed was the bill I wanted to try to get Congress to pass- it was around 1999 or 2000 for naturopaths to be licensed in all states. The holistic side lost, but retired members
of Congress came to report how holistic medicine had saved their life.

What I do for fun:  Just Dance on the play station, doubles tennis, collage in scrapbooks or paint in my art studio.

Best places I've been: 3 way tie: Sedona, AZ, Boulder, CO & where Christy Kabbani (former owner of Two Mothers) just returned from, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Kids: Ages 6 Lilly , 11 Jackie, 12 Silvestre. My oldest two have lived with us the past year from US foster care. They moved in just before the HMN picnic last year
3 days before school started, the fifth time we had met.

Fun Facts: I've had pen pals in Mexico, Thailand, and South Africa. After writing Dr. Leon Strauss (met through the B-52's fan club after seeing two of their concerts- Rock Lobster!) for 16 years we met and he still points me to great homeopathic books and worked with Boiron.

How HMN helped me in a holistic dilemma: My husband was skeptical about my vaccine opinion.  He became convinced to change his strongly held view over time and now as an attorney will help those families with vaccine injuries to file claims with the Federal Government.

What inspires me the most about HMN: What we can accomplish together. One past leader Genis Schmidt really wanted us to celebrate our 5th anniversary with a expo. She used to organize trade shows and she guided us to pull off something a corporation would have spent a lot on!
