Germany Continues to Threaten
to Reject Smart Meters
9/17/13  LONDON -- While we in the energy sector are used to thinking of Germany as a global leader in the adoption of new energy technologies, recent analysis points to an area where this may not be the case - and it's mainly due to privacy issues. According to Frost & Sullivan analyst Neha Vikash, Germany could reject smart meters due to a small but vocal minority of energy users who are opposed to any storage of information on households and uncomfortable that utilities could have access to data on how and when they use electricity. The industry has assumed that Germany would eventually accept that smart meter deployment is necessary, Vikash said, but now it looks as though the nation could be leaning toward a rejection of the technology, threatening the €33 billion it is set to invest. Naperville Smart Meter Awareness is a non-profit 501(c)(4) group of concerned citizens educating the public about the risks of wireless smart meters. We are comprised of lawyers, technology professionals, health advocates, accountants, business owners and parents in our community.
Smart meters are currently being installed in Naperville despite a complaint for federal injunction and on-going investigations by the Illinois Attorney General for Open Meetings Act violations by the City of Naperville in conjunction with this project.
Smart meters pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, safety and health and are not a federally mandated program. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville.
