| Monthly Chapter Meeting Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 | Why breast thermography?
Breast Thermography is an adjunctive diagnostic procedure approved by FDA for breast cancer screening. For this purpose it uses a highly specialized infrared camera that reads and takes an image of the temperature emitted by the human tissue. This heat pattern is then measured and analyzed by comparing with known normal areas of temperature distribution and with the opposite breast. The computerized analysis of these heat patterns can lead to a clinical impression indicating the presence of breast abnormality. In other words a thermogram is a measurement of the physiology in the human tissue. By contrast, breast mammograms can only see anatomical changes in the breast. While mammograms have their own place in clinical testing, it must be emphasized that thermographic imaging has the potential to detect abnormalities 8-10 years before conventional testing can. What are the Benefits of Breast Thermography? - It is non-invasive: nothing enters or contacts the body.
- It is totally safe, even for pregnant or younger women.
- It is pain free.
- It does not send radiation or anything else through the breasts.
- There is no compression.
And, as mentioned earlier, because thermographic imaging can detect abnormalities many years before the conventional testing can, it can give the woman an opportunity to change the focus of the treatment methods: the most successful program can be developed with the best of her interest at its heart. | | How long have you been a member of HMN? approximately 1 year
I am a holistic mom because: I believe increasing awareness so that we can be healthier moms and foster healthier children and families is so very important. As I become healthier, so do those around me.
My holistic passions are: Learning about new recipes that are simple, tasty and nutritious. My other holistic passion is my wellness business, Be Well And Renew. As a Therapeutic Relaxation Expert for almost 20 years, I love educating and sharing so much information about healing and wholeness for body, mind, and spirit with all those I encounter. A recent passion is teaching children the lifelong skill of learning quiet and calm using simple resources and book I created and behaviors that will serve them very well. I also just started a FB group, Relaxation Made Simple to help people have access to simple ways to enjoy tips and techniques about relaxation. What inspires you about HMN or holistic living? I am inspired about HMN because every time I attend an event, I meet women who are so committed to being intentional about their families health. I continue to learn and grow, as we all do, and enjoy expanding my mind in so many ways I never could have imagined through information and experiences shared with other moms.
One of my favorite healthy recipes:
Deanne Berbaum's Meatless Chili
Tasted this recipe at a friend's motivational movie night. Delicious. Thanks Goldie. 2 Tbs Olive Oil 1 - 28 oz can of diced tomatoes 1 - 6 oz can of tomato paste 2 - 3 Tbs Wahoo Chili (from Tastefully Simple) 1 Tbs Garlic Garlic (from Tastefully Simple) 2 cups of V8 juice 1 medium sweet yellow onion diced 1 cup red bell pepper diced 1 cup carrots diced 1 cup celery diced 1 cup zucchini diced 1 cup yellow squash diced 1 - 15 oz can of black beans 1 - 15 oz can of red kidney beans 1 bag of soy crumbles (optional) Available at the supermarket in the frozen food section near Boca Burgers. It will incorporate the taste and texture of ground beef. Utensils: Stock pot, ladle, colander, can opener, cutting board and a good sharp knife! You'll be doing a lot of dicing. Prep: Start with getting all your veggies cut up first. You'll need them all diced into the same size pieces for even cooking. Finely dice the medium sweet yellow onion. Drain and rinse the 2 cans of beans in a colander. (You'll be removing most of the salt from the beans this way) Pour V8 juice in a bowl and stir in the tomato paste, Garlic Garlic, Wahoo Chili and soy crumbles. Directions: You'll start with a couple of Tbs of Olive Oil in the bottom of your stock pot. Let it get hot. Add in the diced yellow onion and cook until translucent. Once the onion is cooked, add in the 28 oz can of diced tomatoes (not drained), then add in all the rest of your veggies and the 2 cans of beans. Cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently so the veggies don't burn. Add in your V8 juice mixture with the tomato paste, Garlic Garlic, Wahoo Chili and soy crumbles. Simmer on low for 30 minutes or until all veggies are tender but not mushy. Serve. Enjoy! MAKES A LOT! :)
