Monthly Chapter Meeting
A Peaceful Night Amongst
the Holiday Crazy Season
Tuesday, November 4th, 7pm

Starting around Halloween and going through Thanksgiving and Christmas, ending around New Year's usually is most peoples busiest time of year. Amongst this chaos we have decided to have a night of peace. Join Genis Schmidt in an Open Discussion and Practices of peaceful and meditative techniques to use all year round and especially during this busy season. Genis will lead the group in yoga, meditation, breathing techniques, mindfulness, and other peaceful practices. Also you are more than welcome to bring and discuss some techniques you have used to maintain your peace and calm. We hope you will take this time out of your busy schedule to join us and BE STILL.

Genis Schmidt is a former co-leader of the HMN Chicago Western Suburbs Chapter and a coordinator for the HMN Fox Valley Chapter. She leads Earth Based Celebrations based on the Changing of the Seasons and the Moon's Cycles. She is being mentored on the Dances of Universal Peace and has attended several meditation and yoga classes. She is a stay at home mom for her two amazing daughters and loving husband.

How long have you been a member of Holistic Moms Network? Since July/August 2014

I am a holistic mom because:  I care about the health of myself and my family. We try to live as healthy and naturally as possible. I love getting to know other moms who are equally as passionate about these things, bouncing ideas of one another and leaning on each other for support when needed.

My holistic passions are:  Organic and GMO free foods, maintaining a clean "back to basics" diet, cooking, yoga, Pilates, being in nature, walking, receiving massage and Thai Bodywork, acupuncture, chiropractic care, making my own cleaning products, using essential oils, breastfeeding, instinctively practicing "Attachment" or "Conscious" Parenting...the list could go on and on!

What inspires you about HMN or holistic living?  Learning about the other mothers and the paths they're on inspires and strengthens me on my own holistic living path. I feel like my values and ideas are reinforced, and not attacked, when talking with other holistic moms. I am also learning new things to incorporate into our lifestyle with every conversation it seems!

One of my favorite healthy recipes:

Pumpkin Oatmeal
4c Organic Rice Milk (or alternative)
2c gluten free oats
16oz organic bpa free pumpkin purée

To taste:
  Organic dried cranberries
  Organic bananas
  Organic chopped walnuts
  Raw honey (local is best!)
  Organic cinnamon
  Organic nutmeg

In a large pot, bring the rice milk to a boil. Add the oats and walnuts and simmer until softens a bit. Add the remaining ingredients and continue simmering until it reaches your desired consistency.

Testimonials:

Samantha has a passion for working with people from all walks of life and helping them address their skin and body care needs. In this fast paced world we live in, it's important to take time for yourself, don't accept stress and pain as normal.  Massage and skin care should no longer be considered just a luxury but an essential component to our mental and physical health care.

One client wrote:

"Samantha is the best! - I go to Samantha for her microcurrent facials and massage. Every time I see her, I feel like I must be the most important human on the earth. She never seems rushed and always seems happy to see me. On top of this, Samantha really cares about the quality of her work. Her sweet charm, combined with her sense of humor, make my visits with Samantha a truly enjoyable and relaxing experience."

Special Whole Foods Meetup This Wed!

   HMN Logo

Chicago Western Suburbs Chapter

Special Whole Foods Meetup!

Join us this Wednesday, October 8th, at 9:30AM, for a special meeting at Whole Foods in Naperville!
Sarah Baker, of The Balanced Babe, will be talking about functional foods to transition to the fall season - and ways to prevent the accumulation of cold weather weight gain.

From her website:
One of our missions is to help you look forward to cooking high quality, nutritious and delicious meals. We want you to be excited to eat healthy, and there is no other way to become motivated to maintain a robust and vital diet than having the knowledge of all the benefits from the foods you put into your body. Why would you not want to improve your eating habits after knowing all the positive changes that will happen to your inner and outer beauty when you nourish yourself with proper foods?

If you are unable to make the evening meetings but still want to be a part of the Holistic Moms community, then this meeting is for you.  Our Wednesday morning meetings are designed for casual conversations, re-visiting topics discussed at the evening meetings, asking questions, and deepening our friendships. This is a perfect opportunity for parents interested in holistic living and natural parenting to explore some its joys and challenges.

Kids are always welcome!
