| Monthly Chapter Meeting Kids Activities - Open Discussion
Tuesday, May 5th, 2015 | Come join us for an open discussion to help parents navigate thru all the different resources in order to pick the right activities for our kiddos, especially with summer coming up.
-Where do you look to find activities - websites, facebook pages, park districts, school summer camp programs, homeschool groups, etc? -How do you choose the "right" activities - educational, sport, music, adventure? -What's is age appropriate? -How do you juggle activities with two or more kids? How do you keep one entertained when the other is in a class? -How much should you spend? Are free activities worth it? If so, how do you find those? -Should you send your kid away to camp? If so, what age is right for that? How long?
Or on the flip side, let's discuss the value of not having them signed up for activities every day. Let them just play with the neighborhood kids and make up their own games. Let them be bored and use their imagination to come up with something to build/do.
Bring your suggestions, and stories, and help a parent out with what may be overwhelming at times. This is what community is all about - hope to see you there! The Health Doctors, 28379 Davis Parkway, Suite 803, Warrenville, IL 60555 | Member Highlight- Michele Petranek
| How long have you been a member of HMN?
5+ years! I am an Holistic Mom because: As a teenager, my mom was helped with an illness by natural healing modalities and supplements, so it became pretty common in our house. If we had a tummy ache, we ran for the Chamomile tea, not the Mylanta. :) I really didn't dive in, though, until I was expecting my first child. I started researching everything, and never stopped!
My holistic passions are: Learning as much as I can about everything! Natural remedies. Reducing toxins in what we eat, put on our bodies, and use in our home.
What inspires you about HMN or holistic living? The kind, open, and knowledgeable women I have met! They never hesitate to help one another and are always respectful of everyone's different paths. And I love how "natural and organic" has become more mainstream in the past few years!
One of my favorite healthy recipes:
Paleo Banana Bread This is the only coconut flour recipe I like. The kids even like it! :) (I have made it without the dates, and it's just as good! I just throw it all in the vitamix ;-)) Ingredients - 3 ripe Bananas
- 6 Medjool Dates
- 6 Eggs
- 2 tbsp. Maple Syrup, Grade B
- 1 tbsp. Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup Coconut Flour
- 1/4 cup grass-fed Butter, melted
- 2 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. Sea Salt
- 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
Instructions - Preheat oven to 350.
- Peel the bananas and break them up into equal-sized pieces (I did mine in thirds). Place them in a food processor with the pitted dates, and mix until well-blended. (You will notice the brown date bits become smaller and smaller.)
- Next, add the eggs into the food processor and combine with the banana-date mixture.
- Throw the rest of the ingredients (Coconut Flour, Maple Syrup, melted Butter, Cinnamon, Sea Salt, and Baking Soda) into the food processor and combine.
- Pour into bread pan. This recipe makes one large loaf (8.5" pan), or 2-3 mini loaves).
- For one large loaf, bake for 50-60 minutes.
- For mini loaves, bake 40-45 minutes.
- Test with a toothpick & when it comes out clean, the bread is baked.
- Cool completely on a cooling rack.
