A few chapter announcements!

Nurturing our Children
Empowering Ourselves

A Few Chapter Announcements...

Thank you to Jen and Theresa...

We'd like to thank Jen Stahl and Theresa Muth for 3+ years of amazing leadership service - above and beyond the call of duty!

Jen has been an active member pretty much since the chapter started, over 5 years ago, and thru her very active involvement in various holistic groups has helped maintain and grow the chapter, even with 3 children to raise as well. She has been our go-to person in every aspect of running this chapter and her knowledge and wisdom will be sorely missed.  She most recently took on a local political/holistic issue and her courage and strength really reflected her passion as a holistic mom.  It also made her realize what she was called to do and is now pursuing a career in helping others in this field.

Theresa has also been an active member for almost 4 years and helped greatly in the marketing aspect of our chapter.  You may have seen her smiling face at the many events in which we set up a booth.  Theresa has always been there, rain or shine, usually with one or more of her 3 wonderful kids.  Luckily she will continue to help out with these events but the needs of family and work have finally pulled her away from her leadership role.

These amazing, holistic mothers of 3 have given so much of their time, love and friendship to this chapter and we cannot find enough words of gratitude for all you have done.  We truly hope you continue to grace us with your presence/knowledge as much as you can but wish you all the best with your new endeavors and thank you again for all you have done!

        With lots of love,

        The Leadership Team

Allegan County commissioners urge state to take a close look at 'smart meters'

Naperville Resident Launches Website:  The Truth About Smart Grids

Raising public awareness and finding solutions for concerns related to invasions of privacy, data security, and health effects.

"In addition, the above chart characterizes the cell phone radiation levels as being in the range of 1,000 to 5,000 microwatts per cm2. These values were provided by EPRI as noted in the chart footnote. To my knowledge, these numbers were calculated by EPRI using assumptions never fully revealed for scrutiny. They are not measured values. I have come to a conclusion that the reported value of 5,000 is unnecessarily high. For example, the Australian government has published a fact sheet that indicates that "[t]he maximum exposure to members of the public exposed to RFR from different mobile phone technologies is 0.4-1.0 mW/cm2." This value range converts to 400 to 1,000 microwatts per cm2. I mention this because it is usually the EPRI calculated value of 5,000, when used by various organizations to create their own "fact sheets," that seems to make it look so lopsided in terms of cell phone exposure compared to exposures from other sources."

How long have you been a member of HMN?  1 month

I am a holistic mom because:
I love my family!  I have a fabulous husband of almost 8 years and 3 wonderful kids; Bryce, 5 ½; Ian, 3 ½ and Ellaina, 1.

It wasn't until a few years ago when I began questioning the food I ate and the things I put on my body.  I've always been extremely sensitive to fragrances on my skin, but never realized it was because fragrances are engineered.  I was very naive!  Then I joined Wildtree, an organic food company, and started doing Tasting Parties and Freezer Meal Workshops.  I learned so much from all the women I met about food sensitivities and health.  I started hearing things about dyes put in food, animals treated with hormones, how I shouldn't be cooking with olive oil, etc... just the basics really.  I've started researching ingredients and the importance of using organic products.

I am very concerned about my health and the health of my husband and 3 kids.  I haven't quite felt like myself lately... very foggy, extremely tired, and bloated.  Also my oldest son has started getting headaches and the effects of sugar on all my children scares me.

Your holistic passions are:  Healthy eating and skincare.  I'm in the process of learning about everything else!

What inspires you about HMN or holistic living?
It gives me peace to be around other like-minded moms.  I've joined other moms groups, but sometimes feel like I don't belong... as if I'm the only one who cares what I'm eating, and like I'm being judged because I'm still nursing my 1 year old.

I'm excited about learning how to be more holistic.  I feel like I've just begun on my journey - I have so much more to discover and change.  I really look forward to being around other moms who care about the same things as me, and who I can learn more from.

One of my favorite healthy recipes:

Crockpot Chipotle Lime Chicken

1 cup Onion, Sliced

1 cup Celery, Diced

1 cup Carrot, Diced

1 1/2 - 2 pounds Chicken Thighs (Or Other Chicken)

1/4 cup Lime Juice (Juice of Two Limes)

1-15 ounce can Tomato Sauce

2-4 Tbsp Wildtree Chipotle Lime Rub

Avocado, sliced

Cilantro

Brown Rice, cooked

Mix all ingredients (except avocado and cilantro) together in the crockpot.  Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours. When done, top with avocado and cilantro, and serve with cooked brown rice.

Maya Abdominal Massage

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are founded on the ancient Mayan technique of abdominal massage which is an external non invasive manipulation that repositions internal organs that have shifted, thereby restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi.

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage address position and health of the pelvic and abdominal organs. The work is best known for the correction of the prolapsed, fallen, or tilted uterus and for aid in relief of the symptoms of menopause.

Old adhesions from invasive treatments to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean delivery are diminished when addressed by uterine massage. In addition, digestion, urinary and bladder problems can be helped.

Krysia has been practicing alternative medicine and therapy for almost 10 years. In that time, she has helped many people overcome injury and pain through natural, therapeutic methods. But her passion is the treatment of women's issues and infertility through the techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy. Krysia has helped countless families that have had trouble becoming and staying pregnant, even when traditional fertility methods have failed. It's not unusual for a woman to become pregnant after only a few sessions with Krysia. Through the techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, Krysia has induced labor, reduced labor time and pain, and shortened recovery time after birth.

Smart Meter Advocates Score a Win

Sacramento Smart Meter Awareness Finally Wins the Official Right to an Analog (After much Blood, Sweat, and Tears)
May 2013

Eleven months of hard labor paid off in March as the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (or SMUD aka SMUG) bowed to public pressure and officially allowed customers to use an analog meter.

Eleven months of relentless effort has paid off in California's capital.  Starting in May of 2012, two Sacramento residents Eric Windheim & Bernie Gough started to vehemently object to the SMUD Board about health, safety billing and privacy issues.  Eric and Bernie brought in five more key members right away, and a number of people from Bay Area environmental health groups provided technical assistance.
