Next Month's Meeting
Food Preservation
May 3, 2011 7-9 PM
In anticipation of spring and new life, many of us look forward to vegetable and fruit gardening. What to we do with our bounty when it hopefully overflows? With concerns over what's in some of the commercially canned goods we buy, perhaps some of us want to start preserving our own food. Buying from a local farmer who grows nutritious and delicious foods is the perfect way to buy in bulk. But HOW do we preserve it? This art is dwindling as generations pass. Pickling, canning, freezing, dehydrating, cellaring...there are many methods. This month we will have some quests and members do some show and tell and offer useful tips on how to preserve foods.

How long have you been a member of HMN?
Well, technically speaking, less than a year. However, I have been a fringe person for a few years now. It just took me a long time to give in to the inevitable.

I'm a Holistic Mom because: The longer I live the more I realize that God has given us everything we need to care for ourselves well. Besides that, my kids are worth the very best and I believe living holistically is the best option for them-both for now and for their future.

My holistic passions are: My biggest holistic passions are natural childbirth (I want to be a doula more than I can even begin to explain), breastfeeding, homeopathy (although I still have a lot to learn), healthy eating, vaccinating (well...actually NOT vaccinating)...and the list just keeps on growing the longer I parent.

What inspires me about Holistic Moms or holistic living? The thing that inspires me about holistic living is how much it empowers me.  I feel so strong when I learn something else that can improve my life or my kids' lives. I love to "beat the system" and find ways to do things naturally. As for HMN, I have loved meeting other people who actually make me feel normal!  I love talking to other people who "get it". It is so encouraging to just talk to other parents who understand that questioning the system is probably a much smarter thing than just going with it because it is the thing to do.  Thanks for helping me not feel so crazy! :)
