"Using the adage that children represent 20 percent of the world's population but 100 percent of its future, the film opens by examining differences between growing up today, with all its inherent obstacles and temptations, and childhood as it was lived 50 years ago." Genis Schmidt | How long have you been a member of HMN? Since January I'm a Holistic Mom because: It is a natural fit. I have always been very environmentally conscious and tried to live a holistic life. Every decision I make I try to think how it will affect the environment (I get excited every time I can reuse something instead of throwing it away). I also try to eat local and organic as much as possible. Being a mom is the most wonderful "job" and I hope all mothers feel the joy I feel in being a mother. Once I had my baby, I realized how much more I have to give. Being a mom makes you realize you are capable of doing many things at once but also how important it is to take time to enjoy your children and be in the present moment with them. Thus the Holistic Mom's Network is a natural fit for my way of life. It seems like the ideal organization for my beliefs and passions. My holistic passions are: One of my biggest holistic passions is protection of the earth for future generations. I feel if you teach a child at a young age to love and care for the earth then as they get older they will work towards preserving it for future generations.
In addition, the most important thing to do as a parent is to love your children. As long as a child feels love they can lead a healthy life. Once you have showed them and told them they are loved then it is important to teach them to love all people, creatures and beings on this earth. It is important to teach them that even though people are different and have different passions and beliefs we are all connected in this world and how it is important to be accepting of all people.
Also I am a very spiritual person. I feel discussions about what one feels spiritually allows more openness and acceptance of others. In learning about other types of beliefs and practicing them helps you develop your own spirituality more fully as well as accepting others even if you do not agree. What inspires me about Holistic Moms or holistic living? I am inspired by my baby, Eva and my husband. I love spending time with them especially outdoors. If Eva is getting on my nerves then it is best to go for a walk and be outside, she loves the outdoors and so do I. I am inspired by Holistic Moms knowing that there are people who are working to make a difference in this world. I stay positive by looking all around at the good that people are doing and see that on the local level there are people that care even if it is sometimes hard to see on the global level. I am inspired by seeing the beauty of creation, seeing the intricate detail in all beings and how creation has led to this point and that we all have a hand in creating the future for ourselves, our children, grandchildren and future generations. One of my favorite healthy recipes: - 5 Hard Boiled Eggs, chopped
- 1 celery, minced
- 2 Tbsp of shredded carrot
- 1 Tbsp of chopped red onion or fresh chives
- 1 Tbsp of plain yogurt or more to taste
- 1 Tbsp of mayonnaise
- Fresh Dill to taste
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
Mix all ingredients together and add more dill, mustard or lemon juice as necessary. Spread on a "sandwich" of choice. |
