Next Month's Meeting
Yoga/Meditation for Moms and Kids
June 7, 2011 7-9 PM
What a wonderful world it will be when our children can learn to be mindful of their bodies, and in touch with their spiritual selves.  As holistic parents, we often strive for this during our own self-care, but wonder what else we can do for our children to allow for self-soothing during periods of anxiety and stress that they eperience in all stages of development.  Join us this month as a team of instructors from Universal Spirit Yoga (Naperville) lead us through a family yoga class followed by a Q+A session in helping us understand how our children can connect with themselves and chose alternative methods to cope with their ever changing emotions.  So take a deep breath, smile, (bring your yoga mats) and join us for this exciting meeting.  Namaste!

How long have you been a member of HMN?
I am actually the founding member of the Chicago Western Suburbs Holistic Moms group, which began less than three years ago.

I'm a Holistic Mom because: Over 15 years ago I came to holistic living in order to recover from chronic fatigue syndrome and yeast overgrowth.  When my children were born, I had already developed a trust in natural medicine and the power of nutrition.  It didn't make sense to go back to the way I was living that contributed to the decline in my health.  I believe in the power of nature and the wisdom inherent in it, and I wanted to raise our children with that knowledge as well.

My holistic passions are: Whole foods nutrition as a foundation for health; living and treading more lightly on the Earth by making choices that do so wherever possible; Nature and all the wisdom that it offers us and our children and actively making time to lose ourselves in nature and experience the calming effect that it so often has; natural medicine and remedies from the Earth (herbals, flower essences, essential oils, etc.); teaching my children ( and myself) the power of their intuition, to listen to their hearts, to connect with their spirit and the value of always seeking knowledge.

What inspires me about Holistic Moms or holistic living? Holistic Moms is about creating community and a place where parents who want to raise their families in this way can come to connect, be understood, and feel the true power of their choices.  Holistic Moms encourages all parents to seek knowledge and be informed, to make a difference in their families and their communities and to live their truth boldly and passionately.  It is a community for those just entering holistic living and for those who have been living holistically for decades to come and connect, share, support, find depth of friendship and the "village" to raise their families.

Clean Out the Closets-get ready for the August Meeting now!
Our August chapter meeting is a great time to clear the clutter out of our lives.  Do you have clothes that you have been meaning to clean out of your closet?  Outgrown toys out of the basement?  Clutter from the garage?  August is the time.  We will be having a free swap.  Bring anything that will fit in your car to the meeting and put it out to be taken.  And then look around, you may find that perfect something that you have been looking for, but for free.  Everything that is left over will be donated to a local charity.  The best part is that we will get it to the charity for you!  We are giving you the heads up now so you can start making piles.  Please let me know if you are planning to bring stuff to put out so that we can plan on enough tables and space for everyone.  Thanks!
