| Chicago Western Suburbs Chapter February 2010 Newsletter | We are all longing to go home to some place we have never been - a place half-remembered and half-envisioned we can only catch glimpses of from time to time. Community. Somewhere, there are people to whom we can speak with passion without having the words catch in our throats. Somewhere a circle of hands will open to receive us, eyes will light up as we enter, voices will celebrate with us whenever we come into our own power. Community means strength that joins our strength to do the work that needs to be done.
Arms to hold us when we falter. A circle of healing. A circle of friends. Someplace where we can be free. - Starhawk | | Notes from the February Meeting | What is a community? Community is derived from the Latin communitas (cum, "with/together" + munus, "gift"). The word is often used to refer to a group that is organized around common values and social cohesion. If community exists, both freedom and security may exist as well. The community then takes on a life of its own, as people become free enough to share and secure enough to get along. - Taken from Wikipedia In February's visioning meeting, we discussed our community and what it means to be a part of it. Everyone actively participated as we used large post it notes to post on the wall the things that brought us to HMN. Once compiled, the list was not long, but highly meaningful and showed each of us that we truly are a part of Holistic Moms to accomplish a common goal. The second part of the meeting was even more enlightening as we also posted the things that we still need or want more of from HMN. And the message was very clear! We came to Holistic Moms for a sense of community, a place to belong, a place to find acceptance and love. And in today's world, where families are spread out, schedules rule, and the constant battle to simplify and slow things down nips at our heels; we all desire a place where we can grow our families, have lots of opportunities to deepen our friendships, and ensure that all our members - from first time moms to those with kids going to college - feel a sense of ownership and connectedness in our community! With the topics we discussed and desires that we identified, 2010 should shape up to be a very exciting year for Holistic Moms! | Next Month's Meeting | Breast Cancer Risk, Prevention, and Diagnosis Tuesday, March 2nd, 7 pm

I was so happy to see a chapter form near me! I'm always recommending friends to find a HMN chapter near them and become a member because our chapter has helped me grow in so many ways and supported me in ways I wasn't aware I even needed. My top holistic passions are natural healing, whole nutrition, natural birth, breastfeeding (I'm a La Leche League Leader), cloth diapers, attachment parenting, researching quality products to support our family, mindfulness (and my need to grow in this area), learning to take care of myself and being a good role model for my whole family and constant education. I'm kind of an information junky to say the least. Being part of Holistic Moms is so much fun and at the same time it's real, it's authentic and it's fulfilling. I've found great friends, families to hang out with, people and physicians to help me grow, and something that I can count on. I have grown so much in the past few years and I have no doubt that HMN has pushed me many times - sometimes before I was ready - but always for the best. Change is always good - even if it doesn't feel like it at the moment. My husband, Steve and I have been together since December of 1999 and got Married in May 2002. We met during college and have never looked back. We have 2 girls and LaPointe #3 is due to arrive mid July. Tori is 6 going on 16 and Natalie is 3.5 years old. Tori is my intuitive, nurturing, gentle girl and Natalie is our comic relief as well as the one who pushes me to grow in so many areas - including holistic healing. Our home also includes 2 cats that are 13 years old but still play like kittens and our lovely Boxer girl Lelu who is 9.5 years old and of course some fish and frogs. Our house is never quiet or dull. Just the way I like it. I also have my own business which keeps me very busy. Steve loves to do projects around the house and write music with his ample instrument collection of which the organ is the newest addition. It often sounds like hockey night in Canada in our house. | _____________________________________ Holistic Moms serves as a support community for those interested in holistic living and natural parenting.
