Next Month's Meeting -
Tuesday, May 1, 2012  7-9 PM
Movie:  "Happy"

For this month's meeting, we will be showing the movie "Happy", and having open discussion afterwards.  :)

Does money make you HAPPY? Kids and family? Your work? Do you live in a world that values and promotes happiness and well-being? Are we in the midst of a happiness revolution?

Roko Belic, director of the Academy Award® nominated "Genghis Blues" now brings us HAPPY, a film that sets out to answer these questions and more. Taking us from the bayous of Louisiana to the deserts of Namibia, from the beaches of Brazil to the villages of Okinawa, HAPPY explores the secrets behind our most valued emotion.

Heather Flowers

How long have you been a member of HMN?   Since I was 8 months pregnant, back in 2009.

I'm a Holistic Mom because:  I believe that we have the capacity to treat and cure so many ailments and illnesses with the use of holistic practices. I have seen the magical powers of human thought and that's why I choose a holistic lifestyle. It was vital when I had my daughter Aireanna to show her through nutrition, attachment parenting and sustainable living, we can drastically change the world we live in for the better.

My holistic passions are:  Being a playful loving mom, healing through nutrition, supplements, and touch. I feel in my heart one of my souls purposes is to pass on a view of the world to my daughter that is filled with love and respect for the earth! I try to inspire this in my family as well as others around me not by force but by example. I love, love, love preparing raw and vegan meals for everyone to try especially the desserts:)

What inspires me about Holistic Moms or holistic living?  We strengthen in numbers. When we have the joy of being around others that value and cherish our believes it strengthens our abilities to live a holistic life in a world that hasn't yet embraced this concept. That's why I love this tribe of moms:) everyone offers honest, loving advice and truly cares about each other!! That is an amazing thing to be a part of.

One of my favorite healthy recipes:

Sweet and Sour Coconut Truffles

1 lb Coconut Flakes
1 c. Dried Cranberries
1 c. Pine Nuts
2 tbsp. Honey
1/5 tsp. Sea Salt
Carob Powder or Coconut Flakes to taste

Blend first 5 ingredients in food processor until thouroughly mixed.  Take about a tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a ball shape.  Repeat process until all mixture is used up.  The balls can be rolled in shredded coconut or carob powder, or frozen to reduce surface stickiness.  Yields 15 truffles.
