Michigan: HB5411 Allows consumers to deny installation of a smart meter and to uninstall a smart meter at the customers request, with additional provision for safety and privacy. Maryland: HB878 Provide customers the ability to refuse a smart meter and to have one removed. Georgia: SB459 Consumer may elect not to use smart meter and that they shall not be charged. Vermont: SB214 Requires electric company to obtain written consent before installing wireless smart meter and the removal, at no cost, if so requested by a customer. Already members of our community have reached out to Rep Mike Connelly (630-579-4848) and Congresswoman Judy Biggert (630-655-2052). Local Legislators who voted against the smart grid/smart meter bill SB1652 include Senator Chris Lauzen (217-782-0052), Rep Fred Crespo (630-372-3340), and Rep Keith Farnham (847-841-7130). Click their names to reach out to them to tell them to consider submitting/supporting a bill in Springfield similar to those above that would advocate for residents to have the right to retain their analog meters without penalty. They have guarded their analog meters.   They have hired electricians to de-install smart meters when utilities have refused. You are protected under the 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendment and the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This is a utility policy that is being marketed as a mandated project. It is an opt in program. Stand your ground!   Protect your property!   It is your home!  You have the right to protect your property from something that may harm you! Take back your power! More that you can do Many residents do not want a smart meter installed on their home.  They want the choice and according to the U.S. Constitution and the Energy Policy Act of 2005, we have that right. The city has denied its residents the choice. According to the city you will have opportunities to refuse the wireless smart meter, but you must sign up for the non-wireless alternative and pay the monthly penalty fee to protect your home and family. If after the 3rd attempt to install a meter on your home, and you have not signed up for the alternative, the city says it will bring a police escort to your home to intimidate you into allowing the installation of the wireless smart meter. We feel this is outrageous. There must be something serious wrongly with smart meters if the city has to threaten you to install one. Visit our website for more information on what you can do. Tell them Naperville is not a "police state" and residents won't accept being threatened or forced to install a meter on their home that they do not want.
