Naperville's City Council is fighting this right vigorously as they plow forward with the forced installation of wireless smart meters on the homes and businesses (schools and churches) in Naperville with no regard for personal property rights and constitutional freedoms.

Naperville receives 2nd warning, American Academy of Environmental Medicine
| In January 2012, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine issued a statement to the California CPUC calling for a moratorium on smart meter installations until further research could be done.
On April 12, 2012 the AAEM issued a letter to Naperville's Department of Public Works - Electric
stating:
"Chronic exposure to wireless radio frequency radiation is a preventable environmental hazard that is sufficiently well documented to warrant immediate preventable health action."
The AAEM calls for:
*Immediate caution regarding "smart meter" installation due to potentially harmful RF exposure
*Accommodation for health considerations regarding EMF and Rf exposure, including exposure to wireless "smart meter" technology
*Independent studies to further understand health effects from EMF and RF exposure
*Use of safer technology, including for "smart meters", such as hard-wiring, fiber optics or other non-harmful methods of data transmission
*Independent studies to further understand the health effects from EMF and Rf exposures
*Recognitions that electromagnetic hypersensitivity is a growing problem worldwide
*Consideration and independent research regarding the quantum effects of EMF and RF on human health
*Understanding and control of this electrical environmental bombardment from the protection of society

In addition to the AAEM statements, Harvard trained M.D., David Carpenter sent a letter to Mayor George Pradel issuing a similar warning regarding the public health risk of mass installation of wireless smart meters.
The city council continually dismisses the experts.

Federal Lawsuit Status Update
| On April 19, Judge Chang began proceedings to rule on the motion for injunction to halt the forced installation of smart meters on Naperville residents until reasonable options are afforded them.
The outcome of the preliminary hearing was as expected. Despite the city's attempt to spin this as a victory, the judge adhered to the rules of proceedings. The hearing was a briefing schedule and nothing more.
The next hearing is scheduled for May 31, 2012.

| More that you can do
| Many residents do not want a smart meter installed on their home. They want the choice and according to the U.S. Constitution and the Energy Policy Act of 2005, we have that right. The city has denied its residents the choice.
According to the city you will have opportunities to refuse the wireless smart meter, but you must sign up for the non-wireless alternative and pay the monthly penalty fee to protect your home and family. If after the 3rd attempt to install a meter on your home, and you have not signed up for the alternative, the city says it will bring a police escort to your home to intimidate you into allowing the installation of the wireless smart meter.
We feel this is outrageous. There must be something serious wrongly with smart meters if the city has to threaten you to install one.

Smart meters are currently being installed in Naperville despite a complaint for federal injunction and on-going investigations by the Illinois Attorney General for Open Meetings Act violations by the City of Naperville in conjunction with this project.
Smart meters pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, and health and are not a federally mandated program. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville.
