Think Beyond the Pink:  Breast Cancer Prevention
Have you ever thought about the whole pink movement? Do you know how it started and why?
Do you know where all the pink money is going and is it really helping women with breast cancer?
After dealing with breast cancer herself, thriver Linda Memmesheimer did some research and decided that there needs to be a new movementwhich she is calling Think Beyond the Pink!  She maintains that it is time we change the October conversation from Breast Cancer Awareness (aka scare us) month to perhaps something more helpful, such as "Breast health month".  Linda will talk about some of the things she has learned after the fact, and how knowing these things early might help to prevent others from ever having to deal with the disease women fear most. Come and learn how thermography is a viable alternative to mammography, how nutrition and exercise plays an important role in preventing breast cancer, the links to breast disease and dental health, and how iodine deficiency may be an underexposed component to breast disease.
For more information, check out Linda's website, http://www.preventcanswers.org/ where you will also find links to join her Think Beyond the Pink and PreventcanswersFacebook pages for updates on her blogs and events. You can also contact Linda directly at preventcanswers@gmail.com or by phone at 630-848-1232 h, 630-835-4748 c

How long have you been a member of HMN?    3 years

I'm a Holistic Mom because:  i believe strongly in the power of the human body to heal itself, when supported. wellness of body, mind, and spirit is very important to me. my family and i follow a very restricted and healthy diet in our house, and it helps a lot to have the support of a like-minded community. i truly appreciate all the information, resources and support that i receive through HMN.

My holistic passions are:   i do love it all, truly. but, currently i am most passionate about the food we eat; not just my family, but as a community. i am very excited about the recent movement in public information toward a healthier american diet and lifestyle.

What inspires me about Holistic Moms or holistic living?   i am inspired to continue to be strong in my holistic living pursuits. making wholesome, homemade meals all day for everyone is very exhausting, coupled with the other demands of motherhood. but, food is survival, and i'm determined to make it work. it certainly helps to know that there is a big culture out there of love and support.

One of my favorite healthy recipes:

I love making fresh juice everyday, it has become a wonderful part of my routine. My children's favorite juice is "green lemonade". it's full of goodness, it detoxifies, and it's very refreshing.

adjust the amounts based on the capacity of your juicer. obviously, organic produce is preferred.

GREEN LEMONADE
2 cucumbers
5-6 stalks of celery
1 half stalk of fennel root
1 handful of parsley or cilantro
1 handful of spinach
1 lemon (peel on)
1 apple

juice all of the above and toast to your health.

You know what you want to do to be the person you want to be. But like most, you also know the problems that occur when resolve meets reality, and the demands (and habits) of your "real life" reassert themselves and get in the way of your new resolutions. Nowhere is this more true than at the office, where circumstances and co-workers seem almost to conspire to sabotage your best plans and intentions.
But it is possible to bridge the gap between business and spirituality. And in A Guru in the Office, author Dawn Staszak shows you how with fifty tips and techniques that can easily be adapted into your daily routine to keep you on your path. As Dawn says, "I'm just an ordinary woman, in an ordinary job, living in ordinary suburbia, so if I can do this, you can, too! It is possible to bring your spirituality to the office, so that you don't have to be a Buddhist monk, a Yoga instructor, or a New Age storeowner to live within your center every day. All of this is meant to help you, and remind you that, in fact, you are your own guru."
Dawn Staszak has worked in the office environment for over nineteen years including commercial and non-profit, large and small companies, both as a permanent and temporary employee. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is currently a Senior Administrative Assistant in a Fortune 500 company.
