The federal lawsuit against the City of Naperville seeks to protect our property rights and civil liberties.  In essence, to be able to determine what is placed on our homes.  Currently, the lawsuit is in the full discovery phase.

Plaintiffs - which include Naperville Smart Meter Awareness - are seeking injunctive relief in federal court.

Plaintiffs are asking the court for a no-cost opt out option and the ability to retain their analog meters - the same relief residents in many other states already enjoy.

Discovery is a costly phase of any legal case.

Your support at this critical phase will help us proceed with this important legal case which is truly about the rights of all U.S. citizens affected by mandated smart meters.

The next federal court status hearing is scheduled for Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 9:15 a.m., Dirksen Courthouse, 219 S. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL.  Look for Judge John Z. Lee's courtroom.

Naperville residents:

The City will spend thousands in our taxpayer dollars to fight its own residents to prevent them from having the choice to keep their analog meters.

We encourage all residents to engage the City Council.  Urge them to pass an ordinance allowing for a no-cost, analog opt-out option.   See our What You Can Do webpage for how to contact the Council.
Cardiac Device? Beware!
Local Cardiologist from prominent university contacts Naperville City Manager, Doug Krieger on behalf of one of his patients.

"Because of the sensitive condition of her heart and potential for interference of the new devices, it is my expert opinion that her household not receive the 'smart' meter."

Chicago Cardiologist Letter to Naperville

Medical professionals have written to Naperville, including the American Academy of Environmental Medicine and Harvard-trained MD, David Carpenter.

In July 2012, the AAEM released a list of medical conditions with specific concerns for EMF exposure.
  • Naperville city council is not listening.
  • Naperville city manager, Doug Kreiger is not listening.
  • The Director of the Department of Public Utilities-Electric, Mark Curran is not listening.
  • Mayor Pradel is not listening.

Is this the type of leadership you want in Naperville?

We encourage all residents to re-engage the council, urging them to pass an ordinance allowing a no-cost, analog opt-out.

Meter Guards, Electricians & No Trespass Signs

Across the country, residents have taken matters into their own hands. They have guarded their analog meters.   They have hired electricians to de-install smart meters when utilities have refused. They are locking up their gates, posting NO TRESPASS signs and protecting their property.*

This is no longer about smart meters.

This is about protecting your personal property.

This is about protecting your constitutional rights.

You are protected under the 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendment and the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

This is a utility policy that is being marketed as a mandated project. It is an opt in program.

Stand your ground!
Protect your property!

It is your home!

You have the right to protect your property from something that may harm you!

Take back your power!

* Please note that NSMA cannot advise whether or not to do any of the above. Each homeowner must make this decision after considering and accepting responsibility for any ramifications.

More that you can do
Many residents do not want a smart meter installed on their home.  They want the choice and according to the U.S. Constitution and the Energy Policy Act of 2005, we have that right. The city has denied its residents the choice.

According to the city you will have opportunities to refuse the wireless smart meter, but you must sign up for the non-wireless alternative and pay the monthly penalty fee to protect your home and family. If after the 3rd attempt to install a meter on your home, and you have not signed up for the alternative, the city says it will bring a police escort to your home to intimidate you into allowing the installation of the wireless smart meter.
We feel this is outrageous. There must be something serious wrongly with smart meters if the city has to threaten you to install one.

Naperville Smart Meter Awareness is a non-profit 501(c)(4) group of concerned citizens educating the public about the risks of wireless smart meters. We are comprised of lawyers, technology professionals, health advocates, accountants, business owners and parents in our community.

Smart meters are currently being installed in Naperville despite a complaint for federal injunction and on-going investigations by the Illinois Attorney General's office for Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act violations by the City of Naperville in conjunction with this project.

Smart meters pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, and health and are not a federally mandated program. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville.
