 | "No-one is able to opt out of this program the way it is now set up." - Bob Fieseler, Naperville City Councilman
|
Naperville residents and business owners apparently no longer have a choice and the contracts the city have entered into are far more important than the concerns of its residents.
Residents do, however, have the option of a "work-around" - a $24.95 per month work around. So you'll still get a smart meter and you'll pay extra to have the city turn off the wireless component and read it manually. And, if you don't like it...too bad.
Fieseler states, "The contract we have with the Department of Energy and the funds we have accepted and the obilgation we have, in my view, require us to have the 57,323 meters. We do need each meter on each house becasue we need be able to, on a point by point basis, know who is using what electricty when." See clip at citycouncilwatchdog.com
"What electricity when"......can you say privacy infringement?
Smart meters have the ability to collect data not only based on when you use your electricity, but what appliances are in use at any given time. This is inherent in the ability of a smart meter.
"Tinkering with some of the details is really jeopardizing our ability to get the project done.", says Fieseler.
Details?
The financial viability of this project is hardly a detail.
The privacy and security of residents and business owners data is hardly a detail.
The health and safety of the city is hardly a detail.
Bob Fieseler is clearly more concerned about the contract with the DOE and other vendors than the opinions and safety of the residents. He is also disinterested in coming up with a solution that will reasonably satisfy concerned citizens, even though many have been offered.
We wonder why this is?
Doug Krause says, "We are penalizing those who want to opt out."
According to Doug, the cost to read the meters is 50 cents per meter yet the city is charging $24.95 to those who want to opt out of the wireless meter.
He further asks, "Is that how we are going to balance our budget? On the backs of those who decide to opt out?"
- $22M project
- $11M bond
- $3M interest expense paid by ratepayers
- $1.35M paid to PR firms to help quell the dissenters
- time of use pricing
- minute by minute surveillance of your electricity usage
- radiation exposure
- cyber security concerns
- KILL SWITCH
- Contractual obligations with the DOE = ratepayers to be guinea pigs for the DOE
- penalty charge to protect your safety
- no referendum
Do you still need a reason to oppose smart meters?
Be smart, be informed, be moved to action.
