Naperville Smart Meter Awareness is a group of concerned citizens educating the public about the risks of wireless smart meters. We are comprised of lawyers, technology professionals, health advocates, accountants, business owners and parents in our community. Smart meters are to be installed in Naperville starting this summer and pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, and health. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville. |

 | 2/3 of residents surveyed don't want it

The City of Naperville recently partnered with North Central College to "guage utility customer's existing knowledg and current perceptions of the NSGI".
Many residents are familiar with the smart grid. Most are unfamiliar with the controversy surrounding smart meters .
Despite the current local, national, and world-wide controversy about smart meter installations and the many pleas from residents in the community to slow down this project until the issues world-wide have been resolved, Naperville's city council and utility are plowing forward with the install, citing one of the reasons as not enough residents in Naperviile are concerned about the risks.
Well, according to their own survey,
81% of survey respondents said they are already taking steps to lower their monthly electric bills
more the 50% already monitor their electricity usage
66% said they do not want variable rate electric plans
One of the main benefits of smart meters is the variable rate pricing plan, which is turning out to benefit the utilities more than the customers. Don't believe it? See what Attorney General George Jepsen said after he conducted a pilot program in his state. Which by the way, he did before he committed to purchasing and installing smart meters. Jepsen Statement
With respect to the risks, the survey didn't ask customers if they were aware of the privacy, security, or health risks to smart meters.
If 2/3 of residents don't want it...then why are we buying it??
