A subsequent article came out in National Geographic entitled Six Stealthy Energy Hogs: Are They Lurking in Your Home? Upon reviewing this article we thought it was interesting that while all of these devices are "technically" used by choice, it was clear that some could be voluntarily powered down and others would probably not be powered down by choice. In other words, we'd choose to pay for the additional electricity because of convenience factors. This is also what almost every study done about smart meters is revealing about consumer's behavior. Consumer's are willing to pay for convenience and smart meter data is really not changing consumer behavior.

By enforcing smart meters on our homes the utilities now have the ability to decide for you and because of the "kill switch" can shut our electricity off at anytime they feel necessary (regardless of whether you are willing to pay for it or not.

Naperville Smart Meter Awareness is a non-profit 501(c)(4) group of concerned citizens educating the public about the risks of wireless smart meters. We are comprised of lawyers, technology professionals, health advocates, accountants, business owners and parents in our community.

Smart meters are currently being installed in Naperville despite a complaint for federal injunction and on-going investigations by the Illinois Attorney General for Open Meetings Act violations by the City of Naperville in conjunction with this project.

Smart meters pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, safety and health and are not a federally mandated program. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville.
