NSMA has spoken to Scott Musser from the AARP, who is also on NSMA's advisory board to see if this was a bunch of smoke and mirrors and he said SB9 is very much alive and being vetoed by Quinn.
We asked about the AG's position since she last wrote the
op-ed piece in 2011 citing "smart" meters were a waste of money. According to Scott, Lisa Madigan and Gov. Quinn are very much opposed to the smart meter and "grid upgrade" b/c of the lack of ROI.
ComEd is lobbying hard to raise rates to pay for the smart meter upgrade.
Just click
"enough is enough" and send your message.
Pass this on ASAP so that Quinn gets the public support he needs. Even though Naperville is not a part of ComEd's territory if they can't push this forward it will help all of us in Naperville.

Subject: Tell Your Legislators You Can't Afford More Rate Hikes
Dear NSMA,
On Sunday Governor Quinn vetoed legislation (Senate Bill 9) that would have resulted in a retroactive rate increase on top of their now nearly automatic rate increases. A bill that was supported heavily by ComEd an Ameren. However...it's likely that the General Assembly will override the Governor's veto.
Seriously you say?! Absolutely. That's where you come in.
We must ensure that the Governor's veto stands.
E-mail your legislators now and tell them
"enough is enough."This is just the tip of the iceberg. Your legislators will also be facing requests this legislative session for water, gas, and telephone rate hikes to take effect in Illinois. Tell them you
simply can't afford this.
Our legislators need to hear from us!
