Naperville Smart Grid Project $2.8 Million Over Budget

City of Naperville is $2.8 million over budget on the Smart Meter project, according to a City Manager's Memorandum published

NSMA has been criticized for the number of FOIAs that have been requested since we began advocating for a choice about smart meters. Many FOIAs have been requested by supporters of the NSMA mission and not actual board members of our organization.

Its the keen eyes and the willingness of concerned Naperville residents who are watching the numbers and questioning the decisions that our council is making that has led to these FOIA requests - each of which has revealed more and more about the trustworthiness of our council.

When we see budget overruns like this, we want to know why. Don't you? But despite council saying "just ask us", when we do they tell us we have to request a FOIA. What's a person to do?

Surely in the coming council meetings you will hear that NSMA is part of this cost overrun due to the number of FOIAs. We trust that Naperville residents are able to see through this manipulation and realize that these numbers are not due to a bunch of FOIAs.

There is a serious problem here in Naperville and we encourage all residents to begin taking a closer look.

Smart meters are currently being installed in Naperville despite a complaint for federal injunction and on-going investigations by the Illinois Attorney General for Open Meetings Act violations by the City of Naperville in conjunction with this project.

Smart meters pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, safety and health and are not a federally mandated program. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville.
