City Surpresses Evidence and Expert Testimony - VIDEO

What Happened at the March 4th PURPA?

Federal law requires utilities to hold PURPA hearings to publicly consider whether or not to adopt new recommendations in utility standards, including wireless smart meters. The governing board of the utility is supposed to be present to hear the public comments and make decisions.  The City Council in Naperville is that governing board.

The City Council authorized one of the city's attorneys, Jill Wilger, to "act" as a judge that was given the authority to "rule" on a motion brought by another City Attorney, Kristin Foley.  Ms. Foley's motion to deny NSMA from participating as a legal intervener (an active participant) in the PURPA hearings was approved by Ms. Wilger.  Her peer (or supervisor, perhaps) "deliberated" for 40 minutes, supposedly alone, before bringing down her decision.

Isn't this a conflict of interest? By preventing NSMA from intervening on behalf of 1,000's of Naperville residents, they are preventing cross-examination of Mark Curran and perhaps other utility associates, as well as their paid contractor West Monroe Partners.  Further, the ability to bring in evidence and expert witnesses that counter the City's highly marketed position. What is the City afraid of? Could it be the truth?

Why would the City DENY our evidence and impressive list of experts to speak and be on the public record?

Naperville Smart Meter Awareness is a non-profit 501(c)(4) group of concerned citizens educating the public about the risks of wireless smart meters. We are comprised of lawyers, technology professionals, health advocates, accountants, business owners and parents in our community.

Smart meters are currently being installed in Naperville despite a complaint for federal injunction and on-going investigations by the Illinois Attorney General for Open Meetings Act violations by the City of Naperville in conjunction with this project.

Smart meters pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, safety and health and are not a federally mandated program. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville.
