Holiday Gathering and White Elephant Gift Exchange
City Island Restaurant, Naperville

"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!" The holidays are just around the corner. It's a busy time of the year. Make time for yourself this season to be with like-minded friends. Join us for a very special monthly meeting in December - a "mom's night out" will be held at City Island Restaurant, located at 916 S Rte 59 (just northeast of Ogden) in Naperville.

  • We'll meet at 7:30 pm (RSVP required) on Tuesday December 4th for food and drinks.
  • During this gathering we will have a "White Elephant" gift exchange. Participation optional. Please bring something that you have in your home (do not buy anything) and no longer want. Ensure it is wrapped. It has to be "good" - no broken CFL bulbs!
  • This dinner is "dutch treat" - pay your own way. City Island is graciously accommodating us with separate checks.
  • This event is time for the Moms - nursing babies welcome.
  • RSVP REQUIRED by Monday 12/3 to ensure we have enough seats at our special HMN table. Call Jen Stahl (331-457-5445 home) with your email address so she can send you the evite.

Ho Ho Hope to see you there!!

How long have you been a member of HMN?    About 6 months

I'm a Holistic Mom because:    I try to live as healthy as possible both for our bodies and our environment. I joined HMN to find like-minded moms that not only thought like me, but that encouraged these choices and could help continue to educate me. I have always tried to do my share to protect the environment, such as recycle, buy local, etc. I would say that I eat pretty healthy and have been fortunate to have very minimal medical treatment. Overall I considered my family to be pretty healthy. However, when I became pregnant "pretty healthy" wasn't enough for me. Not only did I want to take better care of myself, but also I wanted to do the very best for my child and so my holistic lifestyle has become much more important.

My holistic passions are:   It revolves around a healthy body. Starting with what we put in it to treating our bodies with the most minimally invasive route is most important to me. I feel all to often people run for the nearest drug or medicine to "fix" an aliment when it could have either been prevented or treated naturally. Anything I can do reduce the toxins we consume & absorb to allow for a healthier body vital to living healthy.

What inspires me about Holistic Moms or holistic living?

Within the short time that I have been a member of HMN it is easy to say that the women here inspire me the most. Everyone is open minded and accepting of each other's choices even if they differ from their own. It is amazing to see such a wonderful network of women in today's society. I have already learned so much from the few meetings I attended and from just talking to the women in this group. The women here have inspired me to continue on this holistic path and have given me the confidence to share my views with others.

One of my favorite healthy recipes:

Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

2 pounds pork tenderloin

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 onion, thinly sliced

1 stalk celery, chopped

2 cups red wine

2 tablespoons flour

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

2. Place pork in a 9x13 inch baking dish, and sprinkle meat with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Top with onion and celery, and pour wine over all.

3. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

4. When done baking, remove meat from baking dish, and place on a serving platter.

5. In the same 9x13 pan, whisk flour into cooked juices and until thickened.

6. Slice meat, and cover with the gravy.
