Memphis Councilman Calls "smart meters"
a new form of Communism
July 8, 2013

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - Communism, hacking, and even fire. Residents and politicians alike have said just about everything about MLGW installing smart meters.

The resolution that sits before the Memphis City Council to exchange MLGW's analog meters for digital smart meters is creating this talk.

"The smart meters are going to be entry points for hacking," said resident Yvonne Burton.

She joined about 50 other people at city hall who are opposed to smart meters. They wore tags calling for a referendum in an attempt to stop the installation of smart meters.

City Council member Joe Brown called smart meters a new source of communism.

"The thing is to make sure the people have a voice in this issue," he said.

City council member Janis Fullilove organized the town hall meeting Monday.

News to Take Seriously

'Smart' city shuts off great-grandma's water
July 9, 2013

MADISON - Audrey Parker says she has paid her water bill on time for the past 20 years, but that didn't stop the city of Baraboo from shutting off the great-grandmother's water supply Tuesday.

The reason?

The 81-year-old Parker says it's because she wouldn't let the city replace her analog water meter with a new 'smart meter' - a battle she's fought with City Hall for more than a year now.

"(Monday) I went to see the Mayor (Mike Palm). The cutoff day was this (Tuesday) morning and I thought the city might relent," Parker told Wisconsin Reporter. "Yesterday they came and I wouldn't let them in."

Naperville Smart Meter Awareness is a non-profit 501(c)(4) group of concerned citizens educating the public about the risks of wireless smart meters. We are comprised of lawyers, technology professionals, health advocates, accountants, business owners and parents in our community.

Smart meters are currently being installed in Naperville despite a complaint for federal injunction and on-going investigations by the Illinois Attorney General for Open Meetings Act violations by the City of Naperville in conjunction with this project.

Smart meters pose risks in the areas of privacy, costs, security, safety and health and are not a federally mandated program. Our mission is to educate the residents of Naperville by bringing all pertinent information to the public and in doing so, advocate for a smarter solution in Naperville.
