| The precautionary principle states: "when there are indications of possible adverse effects, though they remain uncertain, the risks from doing nothing may be far greater than the risks of taking action to control these exposures. The Precautionary Principle shifts the burden of proof from those suspecting a risk to those who discount it" Unfortunately, Naperville's City Council and Utility don't think the burden of proof for safety or ROI should be on them. Councilman Wherli continues to demand, "Show me the data!" Well, we've shown him and the rest of the council, including city manager Doug Kreiger, the data. Based on their "heels dug in" responses, we doubt they have looked at it and more and more residents are wondering, "what is the driving force behind this hell bent decision to install these meters as soon as possible?" We've even been told by more than one resident that "if Jesus himself came down from above and told the city not to install smart meters, they'd do it anyway." We think it best to continue to look at the data and believe that the truth will always speak the loudest. Below is a small list of the overwhelming data that supports the health concerns. There is also plenty of data out there regarding the privacy, security, and costs concerns. For starters, click the links to the CT and IL Attorney General's statements at the left. We have addressed these concerns in past newsletters and will continue to address them in the future. Today lets look at the data regarding the health concerns:
World Health Organization who declared them a possible carcinogen http://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/pr/2011/pdfs/pr208_E.pdf The Porto Alegre Resolution http://www.icems.eu/docs/resolutions/Porto_Alegre_Resolution.pdf signed by 42 scientists and 58 advocates and organizations calling for much stricter wireless radiation exposure standards and use of the precautionary principal to protect the public from the cancers and other diseases this type of radiation causes The scientific panel who wrote the Seletun Scientific Statement recommending much stricter standard for exposure to electromagnetic fields (like wireless), especially for children and pregnant women http://electromagnetichealth.org/electromagnetic-health-blog/international-seletun-announcement/ 52 doctors and 12 professors and scientists who signed the Freiburger Appeal http://www.feb.se/news/Appell-021019-englisch.pdf listing the diseases caused by wireless devices and asking for much stricter limits or even outright bans on these devices 2000 studies assessed in the BioInitiative Report www.bioinitiative.org showing all of the health problems resulting from even low levels of exposure to wireless signals. To say that there is no scientific debate on the safety concerns of smart meters, given all the above, is ignoring the evidence. And may even be negligence.... Be smart, be informed, be moved to action: Tell the city to stop the install of smart meters in Naperville. Come to the October 4 council meeting to show your opposition and Sign the Petition |
