MEMBER HIGHLIGHT BECKY FOGARTY How long have you been a member of HMN? I joined HMN for the first time this fall, although I heard about the group through a friend of mine about ten years ago. We just moved to Naperville from NJ and I wanted to meet like minded moms out here. I am a holistic mom because: When I was pregnant with my first child 15 years ago, I became profoundly aware that what I ate quite literally became my daughter's flesh and blood. I already believed in a more holistic view of the world, but growing my four babies pushed me further on that path. I believe in food as medicine and as the foundation for physical, emotional and spiritual health. I had my third and fourth babies peacefully and happily at home. My holistic passions are... Organic foods and herbs and anything that encourages the body's natural healing mechanisms. I have been seeing a doctor of Chinese medicine for the last 10 years, which has been a fantastic alternative to allopathic medicine, which had never served me well. I was introduced to homeopathy during my last pregnancy 6 years ago, and I'm thrilled to be taking the Dana Ullman online course that came with my HMN membership. I have a certificate in Biodynamic Farming, and loved my backyard chickens back in New Jersey. I love brewing my own kombucha and experimenting with making fermented foods. What inspires you about HMN or holistic living? I'm inspired by all of God's creation, and everything he put on this earth to support and sustain us. And I'm further inspired by moms who teach me new ways to encourage health in my kids and family. One of my favorite recipes: Straight from the oven, hot, home-made crusty bread with Miyoko's butter!
